The 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva
The year 1997 saw the release of the penultimate model of the Oldsmobile Achieva, GM’s compact sedan based on the company’s N chassis. Although only in production for a relatively short period of time, the Achieva underwent a number of changes – both to the engine outputs and trim levels. First seen as a concept car at the Chicago Auto Show in 1991, the Achieva was released to the general public in 1992 and initially came in four different trim styles. In its four-door guise, the Olds was available in either the 120-hp S version or the more powerful 160-hp SL, while the sporty two-door SC coupe came with a 5-speed manual transmission powered by an 180-hp Quad 4 engine. Both the SL and the SC were offered with a 3.3L V6. The 1997 Achieva also benefited from the company’s brand-new five-speed manual or electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission which replaced the previous three-speed version.
